The Minister of Oil and Gas in the Government of National Unity, Mohamed Aoun, discussed in a meeting today, Wednesday, with the chairman and members of the board of directors of the Ministry’s Gas Transmission and Distribution Company, the company’s work progress and the difficulties it faces in implementing its projects.

According to the Ministry’s Information and Communication Office, the meeting touched on the budget for investment projects to be implemented by the company and the completion of stalled projects. A date was set to discuss this budget between technicians and financiers between the ministry and the company, and to determine the estimated amounts and priorities for implementation.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri discussed today, Monday, during a meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the Mission for Support in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, ways to advance the political process in Libya, in the presence of the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Abu Zaid. .

The meeting discussed developments related to the political solution in Libya, where Shukri briefed the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the developments of the constitutional track in light of the successive meetings that Cairo hosted during the last period, stressing the importance of successfully concluding this track under the auspices of the UN mission in preparation for holding legislative and presidential elections simultaneously without delay.

Shukri stressed the need for some external parties to stop attempts to adapt the political process in Libya according to their interests, as the responsibility imposes on all Libya’s partners to provide them with support, to reach the required consensus on their own and by their own will, and no party within Libya should be allowed to hijack the political process through a de facto policy.

For his part, Bathily explained that the UN mission assures all parties that the key to the solution lies in the hands of the Libyans, and that it indicates to all the parties with whom he speaks the need to show flexibility towards the few remaining issues in the constitutional track.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abu Zaid, added the necessity of continuing the channels of communication and coordination between Egypt and the United Nations to support the Libyans to reach the required consensus on the course of the political process in a way that guarantees the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously, and the exit of all foreign forces, mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya within a timeframe, determined without delay, in implementation of Security Council resolutions.

Abu Zaid concluded during his statements that the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya confirmed his interest in continuous coordination with Egypt in light of its pivotal role in bringing stability to Libya, in addition to that it was agreed to continue this coordination during the coming period.
