Presidency Council reduces salaries by 20%

The Presidency Council Of The Government Of National Accord issued the Resolution No. 270 for the year 2020 in which it gave instructions to reduce state-sector salaries of all employees in general administrative units that are financed from the general budget by 20%, starting from 1st April.

The statement stated that specific functions -included in the Council’s resolution No. 24 of 2019- were excluded from implementing the provisions of article 1 of this resolution.

It should be noted that the reductions come in the framework of the ongoing oil production and export enforced stoppage.

Oil climbs after OPEC+ agree record output cut

Oil prices rose today after major producers finally agreed their biggest-ever output cut, but gains were capped amid concern that it won’t be enough to head off oversupply with the coronavirus pandemic hammering demand.

After four days of wrangling, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Russia and other producers, a group known as OPEC+, agreed on Sunday to cut output by 9.7 million barrels per day (bpd) in May and June to support oil prices, representing around 10% of global supply.

Brent crude futures rose 16 cents, or 0.5%, to $31.64 a barrel by 07:09 GMT after opening at a session high of $33.99. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up 37 cents, or 1.6%, to $23.13 a barrel, after hitting a high of $24.74.

Covid-19: new recovery in Libya

Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control announced that another Coronavirus patient has recovered, after testing negative on Sunday, bringing the number of recovered patients in Libya to nine.

According to the statement, the centre’s laboratory received on Sunday eleven samples, and all results tested negative.

Eastern Libya: No new Coronavirus cases reported

In yesterday’s press briefing, the Spokesman for the Medical Anti-Coronavirus Committee “Ahmed Al-Hassi” stated that a total of 14 samples of suspected cases proved negative, adding that the local epidemiological situation is still stable, and that all monitoring points are active.

Al-Hassi stressed that they have tested 203 people in its stepped-up effort to tackle the novel coronavirus, of which 4 samples have proved positive.

Libya: medical warehouses attacked

Militias loyal to Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar on Sunday attacked medical warehouses belonging to a hospital in the capital treating coronavirus patients. 

The militias targeted depots of the Al-Khadra Hospital in al-Swani in the capital Tripoli with Grad missiles, the UN-recognized Government of National Accord said in a statement.

Last week, the UN condemned heavy shelling of the hospital in which at least three civilians were wounded, calling it a “clear violation of international law.”

The attacks, according to Libya’s Health Ministry, badly damaged the 400-bed facility, and keeping it in operation was difficult.

Foreign Ministry allocates funds to meet the needs of stranded Libyans

In a press statement issued today, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohamed Al-Qiblawi said that the the scientific consultative committee concluded several measures to deal with the situation of stranded Libyans in Egypt, Tunisia as well as in Turkey. These measures include obliging Libyan nationals in Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt to 14 days in quarantine, then they will have to do the needed lab tests before being repatriated home

Al-Qiblawi added that the process will start on Monday in these three countries first, adding that the Foreign Ministry had allocated funds for the embassies to provide the needed assistance to the stranded nationals in other countries.

It should be noted that the scientific consultative committee to combat Covid-19 formed by the Presidential Council has established a scientific protocol that guarantees the return of stranded travelers abroad and at the same time, maintains the public safety.

Further measures to facilitate the return of stranded Libyans

Libya’s Presidential Council called on the Minister of Health, Ehmid Ben Omar, to assign health attaches to cooperate with local authorities of countries hosting Libyan travelers to facilitate their return, in accordance with the recommendation issued by the scientific committee.

According to the protocols set by the committee, all returnees should undergo two tests to confirm the lack of Covid-19 infection. Afterward, they will be directed to self-quarantine at home for at least another week. Moreover, those who test positive for Covid-19 will be housed in quarantine facilities to receive care and treatment. Patients who achieve full recovery will be discharged upon a decision by the specialized doctors.

Mellitah Oil and Gas Company switches its offshore team to prevent Covid-19

In a statement published on its Facebook page, Mellitah Oil and Gas Company announced that they had taken all the recommendations issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), regarding medical precautions and preventive measures to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. Thus, it aims to switch technical and engineering teams operating in offshore platforms, via helicopters and supply vessels starting from Monday.

It indicated that it is also considering transporting those working in the onshore fields via Zuwara Airport and will negotiate the possibility of conducting road trips.

General Petroleum Union condemns “criminal acts” against the Libyan people

In a statement issued yesterday, Libya’s General Petroleum Union condemned what it described as the “criminal acts” carried out by the lawless militias against the Libyan people, calling on the House of Representatives, the Government of National Accord, the High Council of State, along with other competent authorities to address the UN mission and the Security Council in order to put an end to what such acts of sabotage, namely the closing of oil facilities, cutting the MMRA water service, and interrupting gas supplies to power stations.

It also highlighted the need for a firm stand against these acts and to guarantee that perpetrators are pursued and brought before the Public Prosecutor and the International Criminal Court.

Covid-19 cases in Libya rise to 25

Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) affirmed the existence of one new coronavirus case, increasing the total number of infected people in the nation to 25.
The National Centre for Disease Control emphasized that as many as 17 suspected people were subjected to coronavirus tests, one result came back positive.

It is worth mentioning that only one out of the 25 announced cases in Libya has passed away, while eight of them have successfully recovered.
