The General Electricity Company announces the launch of a solar power plant project in Libya

Today, Wednesday, the General Electricity Company announced the launch of a solar energy project in the Al-Saddada area, in the presence of the company’s chairman, chairman of the board of directors of renewable energies, member of the company’s board of directors, and regional director for the Middle East for the French company Total Energies, to establish a solar power plant with a production capacity of 500 megawatts.

This project comes within the framework of joint cooperation with the Renewable Energy Authority of Libya to implement the strategic plan to integrate the electrical capacities produced from renewable energy sources into the electrical network.

Al-Abdelli also stressed that “this project is the first and largest in Libya and that we are actually launching this project today”. For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Authority stressed that we seek to keep pace with development, exploit clean energy sources and implement the strategic plan for 2022, which aims to integrate 25 % of production capacity.

The Regional Director of the Middle East for Total Energies expressed his thanks to the General Electricity Company and the committee that was assigned for negotiation and said “it is important for me to be here and that our teams will work to complete this project.”
