Italy participates in a conference in Spain on the ongoing Libyan crisis

The Spanish city of Toledo hosted a conference on the ongoing Libyan crisis, in which Italy will participate through Nicola Orlando, the special envoy of the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio.

The two-day workshop, which is devoted to the means of international support for the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration program in Libya, was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council Abdullah Al-Lafi, the Minister of Interior in the Government of National Unity Khaled Mazen, The Chief of Staff of the Libyan Armed Forces loyal to the Executive Authority in Tripoli, Major General Mohamed Al-Haddad, the Special Adviser for Libya to the United Nations Secretary-General Stephanie Williams, the European Union Ambassador to Libya Jose Sabadell, and the French Special Envoy for the Libyan crisis Paul Soler.

The meeting, organized by the think tank Centro Internacional de Toledo Para la Paz, was opened this morning by Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares.

The Spanish Foreign Minister stressed that his country “participates in achieving stability in Libya and the security of the southern flank.”

According to the Libyan newspaper, Ean Libya, one of the main points on the agenda is specifically the integration of armed groups into state institutions.

On the sidelines of the talks, a meeting of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee will be held, made up of five officers of the Tripoli government as well as several Benghazi forces. It should be noted that the five “eastern” members of the commission have long suspended their participation in the talks.
