Dbeibeh and the Central Bank governor are expected to arrive in Valletta

Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh is expected to fly to Malta for talks with Prime Minister Robert Abela and will be joined by the governor of the Central Bank of Libya in Tripoli.

Government sources said that although there was no fixed agenda, Dbeibeh was expected to discuss the Libyan funds that were being held at the now-shuttered SataBank.

In 2019, the Times of Malta revealed how the authorities seized $1.1 billion in parallel Libyan currency printed in Russia, as two containers packed with the currency were discovered at Malta customs and have not yet been released.

In addition, a Maltese court had ordered Bank of Valletta to return more than 90 million euros linked to the late leader Muammar Gaddafi, and this case is still the subject of an appeal before the courts.
