The National Oil Corporation appeals to allow it to operate the Zueitina port to obtain storage capacities and warns of an environmental catastrophe at the port

In a statement today, Saturday, the National Oil Corporation appealed to all those concerned to allow it to operate the Zueitina port immediately to reduce the stockpile and obtain storage capacities, warning of the imminent occurrence of an environmental disaster at the port of Zueitina.

The Corporation confirmed that it is doing its best to solve all the struggles it faces in displacing Abu Attifel and Zueitina crude oil and storing them in the designated tanks at Zueitina Port. However, due to the waxy property of Abu Attifel crude oil, it needs constant stirring and heating without stopping, otherwise freezing will occur in the line, and consequently, the losses will be huge, up to the loss of the entire operation of the line.

The Corporation clarified that it and its employees in both Zueitina and Mellitah Company are suffering today from great difficulties in storing quantities of crude oil, especially Mellitah’s, in light of the lack of sufficient storage capacity to accommodate Abu Attifel crude oil, due to leaks in these tanks and the inability of the company to carry out periodic maintenance of its tanks due to the scarcity of budgets during past years

The National Oil Corporation indicated that it has lost a lot of storage capacities and will not be able to store all the quantity, warning that today we are threatened with losing the quantity of crude and its carrier line due to its waxy nature or the leakage of crude oil from the tanks in the port, and thus an environmental disaster.

He added that the value of the Special Drawing Rights is reviewed every five years, and the last adjustment in its value dates back to 2016, and it was supposed to be adjusted in March 2021, but the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund postponed the next review of the Special Drawing Rights assessment basket to July 31 of this year.

It is noteworthy that the exchange rate of the dollar in the parallel market also witnessed an increase in the past two days, reaching 5.05 dinars, after it was trading below the barrier of five dinars to the dollar.
