The Ministers of Economy and of Local Government are discussing ways to follow up the distribution of flour to bakeries directly, in coordination with the Bakers Syndicate

The Minister of Local Government in the National Unity Government Badr Al-Din Toumi held a meeting with the Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Huwaij, in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for District Affairs, the Head of the Municipal Guard, the Director of Economic Studies and Reforms Department, the Director of the Internal Trade Department at the Ministry of Economy, the Libyan Industry Union, and the Bakers Syndicate.

The meeting discussed the prices of some commodities, especially flour, and the extent of stock availability in the markets, as well as how to follow up on the distribution of flour 25 and 50 kg to bakeries directly in coordination with the Bakers Syndicate, in addition to the high international prices of wheat and discussing obstacles related to the approved specifications regarding the protein ratio of wheat and the necessity of implementing indicative prices specified by the Ministry of Economy and Trade and thus the Municipal Guard has to put them into practice.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Huwaij stressed the importance of forming a committee of the competent authorities to take charge of all measures to preserve food security for citizens, calling for a review of the foreign exchange rate against the Libyan dinar and the possibility of supporting some basic commodities.
