Malta rescues 95 migrants from sinking dinghy

Malta’s armed forces have rescued a group of 95 migrants found in distress on a dinghy north of Libya and brought them ashore at a military base near the capital Valletta, authorities said on Monday.

According to the IOM, the migrants have been stranded in Malta’s search and rescue zone for over 30 hours.

The UN agency stressed that “states and shipmasters have a moral and legal obligation to respond to distress cases at sea.”
