Italian Projects in North Africa, Libya and the Sahel, worth 37.2 million euros

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is launching a package of interventions with the Migration Fund with a total value of 37.2 million euros, as a contribution to stabilizing migration flows in North Africa, the Sahel and West Africa.

A statement by the Italian Foreign Ministry said that it is a measure that confirms Italy’s interest in combating migrant smuggling and supporting countries most vulnerable to the repercussions of the exacerbation of the food crisis in the field of migration and initiatives that will be implemented in the traditional priority areas of the Italian migration strategy with a focus on supporting local communities that receive migrants in countries Transit .

Three projects have been funded in Libya, two in Niger and one in the Sahel region in order to improve border management and combat human trafficking. In addition, there will be various activities in West Africa, including interventions in Nigeria and Ivory Coast, with the aim of strengthening the capacity to manage migration flows.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that there will also be information campaigns in the Sahel region and Cote d’Ivoire on the dangers of illegal immigration.
