IOM Reports Repatriation of 160 Migrants to Libya

A reported 160 migrants in the night between Sunday and Monday were taken back to Libya by coast guards, a spokesperson for the International Organization for Migrants (IOM), Safa Msehli, has tweeted. Msehli added that ”six boats were intercepted over the last 48 hours and 390 men, women and children ended up in jail”. ”Libya is not a safe port”, concluded Msehli.

IOM in Libya said that ”while our teams are present at landing points to provide emergency assistance, we reiterate that nobody should be repatriated to Libya”.

The IOM said a few days ago that 9,448 illegal migrants, including women and children, had so far been rescued and returned to Libya in 2020.
