The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, participated in the work of the Development Partners Forum held under the banner “Local Governance and Municipal Development”, in coordination between the Ministry of Finance and the World Bank, and the participation of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, of Finance and of Local Government, the US envoy to Libya, accredited ambassadors, and the Director of the The Maghreb and Malta Department at the World Bank, and representatives of international organizations working in Libya, as well as the relevant Libyan institutions.
Dbeibeh also stressed the steps taken by the government to support the local administration by activating the Supreme Council for Local Administration and transferring the competencies of 12 sectors of ministries to the municipalities, issuing a decision to collect municipal revenues for local revenues, and activating the file of environmental sanitation and the Municipal Guard.
During the forum, the Ministry of Local Government presented a light presentation explaining the steps taken by the government and the challenges facing local development.
In the same context, representatives of international organizations and a number of ambassadors stressed, in their various words, the need to increase cooperation between the Ministries of Finance and Local Government in order to support the government’s measures to activate local administration, expressing their appreciation for the government’s positive steps to activate the decentralization project through a package of measures and decisions implemented in this file.
