Dbeibeh issued a decision to suspend the board of directors of the General Electricity Company
The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, issued Resolution No. 288 of 2022 regarding suspending the board of directors from work and deciding some provisions.
The decision stipulates that the board of directors of the General Electricity Company shall be temporarily suspended from work and referred to an administrative investigation. The company shall be managed under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister. An investigation committee will also be formed under the chairmanship of the designated Minister of Planning, the Minister of Local Government, a member of the Legal Affairs and Complaints Department in the Council of Ministers, and a member of the company’s general assembly to be named president.
The committee, established according to the Article 3, undertakes the administrative investigation with the board of directors of the General Electricity Company into the reasons for the continued power outage, especially: the investigation into the company’s delay in introducing some new stations to the public network according to the specified dates approved by the board of directors, in addition to the investigation into the use of the amounts allocated to the company during 2021 in order to solve the electric power crisis in the absence of corresponding results, as well as the investigation into the failure to complete the contractual procedures for periodic and preventive maintenance projects.
