After his meeting with Al-Kabeer, Sanalla, Shakshak and others, the American ambassador: “Everyone emphasized that oil revenues should be kept and spent in a way that benefits the Libyan people”
The US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, held a meeting today, Thursday, in the Tunisian capital, with a number of Libyan officials, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Seddik Al-Kabeer, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, Mustafa Sanalla, the head of the Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak and the head of the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives, Omar Tantoush, and the Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, Suleiman Al-Shanti.
According to the US Embassy in Libya, the meeting was devoted to developing more transparency and accountability in public spending through a Libyan-owned operation. All participants from the Libyan officials stressed that the Libyan revenues derived from the sale of crude oil and oil derivatives must be kept and managed by Libyans at all times, so that they are spent in a way that benefits all the Libyan people.
It added that the meeting also discussed the participation of Libyan institutions with the existing regulatory authorities in devising ways to monitor, settle and evaluate the state’s management of oil and gas revenues, which will grow significantly once full oil production is allowed to resume, noting that other meetings are expected to be held next June to formalize the progress in this important initiative.
