The director of Eye Hospital in Tripoli responds to rumors about 14 cases of blindness

The Director of Tripoli Eye Hospital, Rania Al-Khuja, said in an audio recording on the official page of the Hospital, today, Sunday, in her response to the circulation of some pages that 14 cases were blinded due to the presence of corrupt, contaminated and expired medicines inside the hospital, stressing that this news is false and considered as a rumor spread on social media, broadcasted  by those with personal interests.

Al-Khuja confirmed that all the results of the cases were positive, and there was no growth of any type of bacteria or contamination inside the operating rooms, and the drug control report indicated that the drug is suitable for human use and does not have any problem, after receiving 14 cases in the Emergency Department on Thursday. They were housed, and random samples of eye fluid were taken for some cases, and viruses and bacteria were analyzed.

She explained that some cases suffer from diabetic retinopathy and complications of diabetes within the retina, as a result of its presence in the body for a long time, so that about 55 to 60 injections are done every Thursday, with a list prepared by the retinal unit in the hospital.

Al-Khuja added that the doctors specializing in the retina diagnosed the cases as allergic reactions to the eye, stressing that cases of allergic reactions occur to any drug that treats chronic cases, and all cases were treated and recovered. They were discharged from the hospital in good condition and are closely followed up.

In her response, she also clarified that all medicines are stored inside the hospital’s warehouses, with the department heads following up on storage and expiry dates with a control certificate, stressing that the hospital provides the best medicines and medical service.
