Norland: “The US Embassy feels the frustration of the Libyan people after nearly a year of postponing the elections”

The US Special Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, said during a press conference today, Thursday, that the date has approached for the members of Parliament and the High Council of State to meet to discuss the constitutional basis, which represents the key to resolving the election problem, and the US Embassy feels the frustration of the Libyan people, after The approaching anniversary to December 24, which preceded the elections, in terms of the political track that was supposed to take place last year.

Richard explained that the US embassy will continue to focus on the main actors who can help to give an outcome to the elections, and that the head of the High Elections Commission, Imad al-Sayeh, assured the embassy of the commission’s readiness to hold the elections, and that the matter depends on the political situation.

Richard stressed that oil production in Libya every day ranges from one hundred to one hundred and fifty dollars that accumulates in oil revenues, and that a mechanism must be established where the Libyans call how these revenues are spent for the benefit of the Libyan people, and with regard to oversight that guarantees transparency.
